Before you order
What do I need to buy road legal plates?
The law says we have to see photo ID (driving licence or passport) and proof you're entitled to the registration: your V5C logbook, a V750 or V778 certificate, or a V62 or V948. After you order we'll email you a link to upload them. It takes about a minute.
Are 3D and 4D plates road legal?
Yes. Our raised 3D gel and 4D acrylic characters use the legal font, size and spacing, are solid black and meet BS AU 145e, so they can be used on the road.

Four finishes, one legal standard
Standard 2D plates are printed, 3D Gel characters are raised under a domed resin, 4D Acrylic characters are laser-cut from 3 mm acrylic, and 4D Gel combines both. They all use the legal plate font, 79 mm characters (64 mm on motorcycle plates) and the correct spacing, so they pass an MOT and a roadside check. Plates fitted from 1 September 2021 must also meet BS AU 145e, which ours do.
Choose the right size
Standard is 520 x 111 mm. Short is 408 x 106 mm and takes up to six characters, ideal for a short private reg. Large rear gives a standard front and a 535 x 152 mm rear. The 4x4 square rear uses a standard front with a 280 x 203 mm rear. Motorcycle plates are 228 x 178 mm, rear only. More on number plate sizes.
Flags and the green flash
Add a Union flag, Cross of St George, Saltire or Welsh dragon with UK, ENG, SCO or CYM. GB badges have not been valid abroad since September 2021, so use UK. The green flash is only for zero-emission vehicles. What is allowed on a road legal plate.
Documents before we print
We are a DVLA registered number plate supplier, so we need photo ID and proof you can use the registration: V5C, V750, V778, V62 or V948. After checkout you get a link to upload both. Production starts as soon as they are checked.
Fitting and delivery
Plates are made to order and sent by tracked UK delivery. Add the fitting kit for sticky pads, screws and caps: most plates go on with pads alone, or screw them on using the existing holes.
